How ECU remapping works on a petrol Citroen XM
Petrol engines are remapped by refining fuelling, ignition timing and, on turbocharged engines, boost control. Done carefully this releases performance the manufacturer left in reserve, giving sharper throttle response and a stronger top end.

Among the 4 petrol XM engines we have figures for, the 2.1 TD 109 ranks 2nd for power gain, 3 bhp above the XM petrol average of 28 bhp.
Across our whole catalogue the average petrol remap adds 27 bhp and 51 Nm, so this engine's 31 bhp and 65 Nm sits at or above that benchmark.
